GIRL IN THE MACHINE
Nantwich Players, Cheshire – “Girl in the Machine” by Stef Smith.
A Dystopian drama exploring our potential digital future and what it might mean for “life” as we know it. Set not too far into the future, we meet corporate lawyer Polly and her husband, Owen. Polly has recently been promoted so Owen presents her with a new gadget, a “Black Box”, to help her relax. Black Box offers virtual reality experiences that are both seductive and addictive. Polly and Owen are forced to question whether their definitions of reality and freedom are the same.
UNDER MILK WOOD
Spiral Curtain, Cobham, Surrey – Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas (Abridged).
In the woods above the small fishing community of Llareggub, songs are sung and stories told about the colourful daily lives of the people who inhabit the village below.
Beginning in the hours before dawn, you are drawn into the dreams and innermost thoughts of a rich array of characters, living and dead. Their hopes, wishes, and relationships, lyrically described, riotously comic, and deeply moving, are explored through the morning and afternoon, before ending as dusk falls.
