EVENTS, BAR & BOX OFFice VOLUNTEERS WANTED
With the news that The Albany Theatre has secured funding for exciting development plans that will create three new performance/flexible spaces, we are now looking to recruit new volunteers to join our Teams (find out more about our building development plans here).
Specifically, we invite applications to join our Events, Bar (including kiosk and catering), and Box Office Teams. Depending on your skills and experience, there are opportunities in each team to join the volunteer Leadership group.
Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of three sessions a month (each 4-5 hours).
Below is an outline of what each Team does:
As part of the box office team you’ll be helping to sell tickets, both in person and by responding to telephone enquiries, whilst also and handing tickets to patrons who pick them up “on the night”. The Albany uses the Spektrix ticket system – full training will be given.

(also kiosk and catering) – The Albany Theatre is only accepting volunteers aged 18 or above to work on the bar, however, you do not have to have any experience – just a passion and commitment for great service while under some pressure when we have a busy show such as Elvis or Giovanni Pernice! Full training will be given.

Ushers, Front of House Managers and Event Planners are all volunteers at the Albany, supported by our paid Events staff. From the moment an event is booked in – Main House, Studio(s) or non-show events such as rehearsals, meetings and conferences – the volunteer Events Team takes over to ensure every occasion is successful delivered, so there are opportunities for event planning. Full training will be given as appropriate.

Building these three teams is our priority as we head towards re-opening, but do watch out for invitations to apply to join our Communications and Education and Outreach Teams in the coming weeks.
The Albany, as a professional community venue, offers opportunities to volunteer and get involved in an organisation that holds a unique place in the arts ecology of the city that are not easily available elsewhere. If you love the creative arts, you are coming to the right place!
You do not have to have prior experience. You do need to be keen and enthusiastic, and committed to The Albany’s values: Excellence; Engagement; Creativity, Learning, and Integrity. You can read more about our Arts for Life Vision here.
We particularly welcome applications to join our volunteer Teams from people from all backgrounds, particularly those who traditionally find it hard to access opportunities to get involved in the Arts. Don’t hesitate – this is for you!

Where do you fit in?
The Albany Theatre Trust’s vision is “to promote well-being through Arts for Life”. This vision, backed by rigorous and prudent financial and organisation management, was endorsed by Coventry City Council with their decision to underwrite the theatre’s lease. The lease secures the theatre for fifty years, giving the opportunity to create new facilities, including a studio theatre, in an additional 10,500 square feet of newly acquired space. The Albany is planning the development to provide important new facilities for community and professional use and will announce plans shortly.
The Trust is not embarking on this new development in isolation. Arts for Life is set against the background of Coventry’s emerging ten year arts strategy, and the City’s role as UK City of Culture 2021.
Volunteering at the Albany Theatre in Coventry
The 620-seat Albany Theatre is run on behalf of the community by a Charitable Trust. Day to day management is in the hands of a professional team. The Albany Theatre exists to provide all members of the community we serve with opportunities not only to perform on our stage, but also to give their time as volunteers to support all areas of theatre activity.
We are always on the lookout for volunteers to join our technical teams – stage management, lighting, sound etc. – but we also need help in front of the curtain with marketing, box office, front of house and managing our finances. See more about volunteering here.
If you have experience that is great. If you feel you don’t, or you are not sure how you can help, please don’t be shy. Get in touch. There are so many things to do that we are sure to find someting that will benefit us and most of all will be a lot of fun for you. And we provide support, training and development opportunities so if you haven’t got the skills but would like to learn them we really do want to hear from you.
