About Tom Wright:

Tom Wright is the Artistic Director at Leeds Playhouse. Originally from Coventry, Tom is a writer, producer, director and dramaturge, with a history of developing innovative work. He has previously worked at The Kiln and The Old Vic. In Coventry, he premiered his play I Ain’t Dumb at the Belgrade Theatre, and created a LGBTQ+ youth theatre group alongside the production.

As a writer, Tom’s acclaimed plays include Please Please Me (Kiln Theatre), My Dad’s Gap Year (Park Theatre), Undetectable (King’s Head Theatre), Very Special Guest Star (Omnibus Theatre) and Rebel Song (The Other Palace). His work as a theatre director has seen recent productions including Dr Seuss’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical (Leeds Playhouse), Blowhole (Soho Theatre and Pleasance Theatre), Dumbledore Is So Gay (Southwark Playhouse, Pleasance Theatre and Vault Festival, Origins Award) and Tumble Tuck (King’s Head Theatre and Underbelly Edinburgh). Film credits include: Stockholm (BFI Flare), Kweenship (ArtsEd Films), Sent To Cov (Sky Arts).

Tom’s award-winning debut short film Stockholm premiered at BFI Flare: London LGBTQ+ Film Festival, gaining international recognition and winning Best Cinematography at the LA LGBTQ+ Festival. His second short film Kweenship was completed in the same year, followed by a commission from Sky Arts to make his third short film Sent To Cov for national broadcast.
