CV Folk offers another fascinating glimpse into the ‘inside story’ of a leading act on the local folk circuit. We’re delighted to welcome the highly acclaimed guitarist and singer-songwriter, Kevin Dempsey to play music and share personal insights in the Albany Theatre’s Courtyard Studio. As well as performing some of his impressive repertoire, he will be interviewed by our resident ‘interrogator’, popular folk musician and podcaster, Bill Bates. And expect to see some surprise guests sharing their own experiences of working with Kevin and reliving some of their performances with him onstage.
Founder member of legendary bands Dando Shaft and Whippersnapper, Kevin is regarded as one of the finest acoustic guitarists on the international folk scene. He has worked alongside some of the world’s leading folk artists including Pentangle’s Jacqui McShee, celebrated Irish singer Mary Black and the late fiddle-legend Dave Swarbrick. He’s also a familiar figure here at the Albany Theatre where he has hosted some fascinating and informative guitar workshops.
The idea behind ‘Up Close & Acoustic’ is to create a more insightful and interactive experience of music by revealing more of what inspires and motivates the musician. The format is proving popular for audience and performers alike, and the intimate and convivial atmosphere of the Courtyard Studio provides the perfect setting for an entertaining evening of music, stories and Bill’s probing questions!
The show begins 7.30pm and tickets are £14.50 or £10.50 concessions (including students and pensioners). The event is expected to run until approximately 10pm.
