We’re so excited to announce our new summer festival, coming this June, the perfect weekend for the whole family! With performances, workshops and more from community groups and artists around the city, we can’t wait to share it with you.
We wanted to do something big to celebrate the incredible wealth of talent around Coventry, and with funding from the Arts Council, we were able to make that dream a reality. For months, we’ve been conducting workshops, leading classes and getting community groups ready for the performance of a lifetime.
Working in tandem with groups such as the Young Carers Trust, the Refugee Centre, Hereward College and Arawak Community Trust, we’re so happy to lend the stage to the diverse and talented people of Coventry.
We’ve got a lot lined up for both festival days, whether you want to watch a performance or take part yourself in one of our workshops. Plus there’s plenty of casual activities on throughout the day, with a drop-in crafts room, an exhibition starring local artists, a photobooth and an artist who will be live drawing guests on the day!
The festival is the culmination of an ambitious community outreach programme which gave more than 500 people the opportunity to experience different art forms – from theatre, dance and music to puppetry, film, and playwriting, some of whom will be showcasing their work at the festival.
“This is about making the Albany a place where everyone can feel welcome and creative – whether they’re stepping into a theatre for the first time or developing the next stage of their artistic career.” Said the Albany Theatre’s Chief Executive, Alan Pollock.
“The new and improved spaces give us a huge opportunity to open the doors wider than ever before, and the festival in June will be a joyful celebration of everything created along the way by the talented people in and around Coventry.”
“We can’t wait to share the results of these sessions at our festival weekend in June and want to thank our incredible community partners for their hard work and enthusiasm in bringing this to life.”
