Work Opportunities

Theatre Technical and Production Manager

The Albany Theatre in Coventry is entering a new era. As well as a 600-plus main house we have 2 studio theatres, 2 further flexible spaces and a foyer kitted out to welcome ad hoc performances to our purpose-built stage area.

The Albany is not unique. We rely almost entirely on generating our own revenue. We employ a small number of staff, supported by an army of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers. Where we are different is in our ambition. Our Mission is to “promote well-being through Arts for Life”. Our vision, Engage Inspire Create. We have recently completed a very successful programme, funded by the Arts Council, which reached into many of the diverse communities we serve and that has broken new ground and laid the foundations for a very exciting future, led by our Theatre Director, Alan Pollock. Plans and ideas cascade from his exciting vision for the future. ACT – Albany Creates Together – offers opportunities to anyone to come in and make things happen: “If you have got the idea, we have got the space”.

Of course, generating revenue means making money out of popular events, and we have our share of those. We have also, over the last year, grown our Matinee Club.

Now, after nine very successful years, our Theatre Technical and Production Manager is moving on to a very exciting new role with our support, thanks and blessing. He has been massively successful because he has a comprehensive skill set, a willingness to do whatever it takes and is brilliant with people, be they Visiting Companies, staff or volunteers. We know he is a hard act to follow.

Can you do that? Could you do that? Are you equipped with the range of skills and theatre experience that enables you to create and deliver a lighting or sound design to an excellent standard? Are you able to design, or lead the design, of our increasing number of in-house productions? Can you lead and inspire what is a relatively young and inexperienced (but talented) professional team, and can you enthuse and get the most out of our dedicated technical volunteers?

Can you squeeze every last ounce of value out of limited resources and budgets? Above all, do you love coming to work in technical theatre and production? Is every day an exciting new dawn? Do you see a challenge as an opportunity?

Over the years we have trained and developed talented newcomers to the industry through apprenticeships, and we plan to offer a BTech in Technical Theatre in partnership with Coventry College, starting in September.

So, if you are experienced, talented, enthusiastic, and passionate for your next career move, and want to come to a theatre that offers a different challenge every day, to gain experience that will build your skill set and knowledge and give you great job satisfaction, The Albany awaits! You’ll have a lot of fun along the way, and that counts for a lot.

Coventry has the great advantage of being very easy to access by road and rail. If you would like to know more, come and see us for an informal chat. We are looking forward to it.

This is a full-time, permanent role. 37.5 hours a week, averaged over 17 weeks. Salary range: £37,500 – £45,000.
