Job Roles at The Albany Theatre

We are currently hiring for the following positions – Cleaners and Casual Theatre Technicians.

Cleaners

2 positions – Closing date Thursday 16th July

Position 1 – 17.5 Hours – Monday – Friday 6:30am-10:00am

Position 2 – 10 Hours – Saturday and Sunday 6:30-11:30am

Per hour – £8.52 (topped up to national minimum wage/ national Living wage)

Reporting to: Theatre Manager

ROLE SUMMARY

To ensure The Albany Theatre is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, presentation and hygiene, providing a welcoming, safe and professional environment for audiences, performers, staff, volunteers and visitors.

The Cleaner will be responsible for the daily cleaning of public, backstage and operational areas of the theatre, including toilet facilities, bars, foyer spaces, dressing rooms, backstage areas and the auditorium. The role will support the overall customer experience by ensuring all areas of the venue remain clean, safe and presentable at all times.

 

MAIN DUTIES OF THE ROLE

Cleaning & Housekeeping

· Carry out daily cleaning of all allocated areas within the theatre to agreed standards.

· Clean and maintain public toilets, ensuring facilities remain hygienic, stocked and presentable.

· Clean bar areas, foyers, circulation spaces and public areas before, during and after performances and events as required.

· Clean dressing rooms, backstage areas, offices and staff facilities.

· Clean and maintain the main theatre auditorium, including seating areas, aisles and surrounding spaces.

· Undertake sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting and polishing duties throughout the venue.

· Empty waste bins, remove rubbish and support recycling initiatives in line with theatre procedures.

· Replenish consumable items including soap, toilet rolls, hand towels and cleaning supplies.

 

Health, Safety & Compliance

· Use cleaning chemicals, materials and equipment safely and in accordance with manufacturer instructions and COSHH requirements.

· Follow all Health & Safety procedures, reporting hazards, accidents, defects or concerns immediately.

· Ensure cleaning equipment is maintained in a safe and clean condition and report faults promptly.

· Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.

Venue Presentation

· Support the maintenance of a clean, welcoming and professional environment throughout the venue.

· Identify areas requiring additional cleaning, maintenance or repair and report these to management.

· Assist with deep cleaning activities and periodic cleaning schedules as required.

Team Working & Customer Service

· Work collaboratively with theatre staff, volunteers and contractors to support the successful operation of the venue.

· Interact professionally and courteously with audiences, performers and visitors where required.

· Take pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout the theatre.

· Experience of maintaining high standards of cleanliness in public-facing environments.

Essential Skills

· Ability to work independently and use own initiative.

· Ability to follow cleaning schedules and instructions.

· Good organisational skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

· Good communication skills.

Casual Theatre Technicians / Casual Technical Crew

The Albany Theatre is looking to build a pool of casual technical staff to support our busy programme of performances, events and venue activity.

We are looking for reliable, practical and safety-conscious people with experience or transferable skills in theatre, live events, backstage work, lighting, sound, stage management, production, crewing or general technical operations.

The work may include supporting get-ins and get-outs, rehearsals, performances, technical resets, stage work, lighting, sound, backstage support and general venue technical duties.

Applicants should be comfortable working as part of a team, following venue procedures, taking direction from the Technical Department and working safely in a live venue environment.

Rate of pay: £15.00 per hour gross, inclusive of rolled-up holiday pay

Contract type: Casual / variable hours

Location: The Albany Theatre, Coventry

Hours: Work will be offered according to operational need and individual availability. Evening, weekend and occasional late-night work may be required. This is casual work and there is no guarantee of regular hours. However, successful applicants will be added to our casual technical pool and contacted when suitable work becomes available.
