National Drama Conference 2022

A compelling debate on Inclusion and Diversity – a must-attend event for all who love British amateur theatre and care passionately for its future – will take place at the Albany in July. To find out more, visit National Drama Conference – National Drama Festivals Association (NDFA).

Ian Wainwright, a producer with the Stratford-based Royal Shakespeare Company, certainly cares. He believes that, unless amateur theatre in this country changes to reflect the communities in which it performs, then it is doomed to become an ever-more marginalised and irrelevant minority event.

How, then, do those who currently enjoy amateur theatre effect that change?
And from whom should we learn?

Ian will be at the Conference, supporting University of York Professor of Inclusion and Diversity Anne-marie Greene, who is also Artistic Director of Coventry’s Criterion Theatre which has led the way in presenting inclusive theatre.

Co-curating the Conference will be Penny Amis, chair of the Side By Side Theatre Company of Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, whose members and supporters include those who live with learning difficulties, and those who do not.

The day-long Conference will take place in the Albany Studio on Saturday July 23, 2022, on the final day of the seven-night National Drama Festival in the Albany’s adjacent Main House.
